Arizona Immigration Law SB1070 Text And Debates About Human Rights. The Arizona immigration legislation passed a little over a week ago is highly controversial. Re fried beans in the shape of swastikas adorned the capital building as the immigrant community of Phoenix protest the recently passed legislation.
Many are outraged over the legislation, saying that it violates American principles and human rights in general. On the other hand, those that are natural born Americans are supportive of the bill, citing strained social programs and tight job markets as big concerns.
The Latina singer Shakira is concerned that the newly passed legislation will further victimize those who suffer from domestic violence, as they will be fearful of having to show immigration paperwork for themselves and their children to the law enforcement that may respond.
On the other hand, immigrants are supposed to have on their person their green card. Simply carrying around the proper documentation is an easy way to ensure that someone isn’t affected by their status. In addition, a driver’s license or state issued photograph identification card is enough to prove that you are legally present in the United States.
Some fear that the newly passed legislation will enable racial profiling. However, law enforcement isn’t supposed to go up to someone simply to inquire about their immigration status.
